Wherever possible, I've used my own photos or Creative Commons licensed pictures for my blog. Most of them I've gotten through Flickr, always linking back to the photographer.

Test: Does this work?

Posted by mousewrites on January 27, 2009

Just a test of the Delicious Play Tagger.

EDIT: Yeah, ok, that totally doesn’t work. I was trying to embed the Javascript for playtagger into the page, and cheerfully strips it out every time. Le sigh.

Cello – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Posted by mousewrites on May 18, 2008

The cello is most closely associated with European classical music, and has been described as the closest sounding instrument to the human voice.

Cello – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My dormant desire to learn the cello has flared again, and I am sitting in my house with beautiful cello music swirling around my ears and making my chest ache. I want to play so much.

cello I did have a chance once, in middle school. I was part of the string quartet, and the music teacher let me borrow a little 1/2 size cello to take home, and didn’t charge me for it. I wasn’t the most diligent student, but I did so love to sit in my room and pull the bow across the strings, the vibration rumbling in my knees and breastbone.

Then my dog knocked it over and the bridge popped out.

Now, of course, that’s easily fixable, but I didn’t know that.  I thought I had broken it, and I cried for about 2 hours. We had no money at all. I had no idea how much it would cost to repair. I hid it from my mom, and snuck the ‘broken’ instrument to the music room, where I left it propped up against the door. I never went back to string quartet, and went out of my way to avoid the music teacher.

I wish I had the balls to go back. Maybe then ‘band’ geek could be up in my list of geekery.

I will keep looking on Craig’s list. Sometimes ones pop up for $200-$300… maybe I’ll get lucky.
